We are actively seeking a Category Buyer to join our Procurement team in Banbridge!
Key Responsibilities
- Source and purchase materials required for operational sites.
- Oversee the delivery of the material to site in a clear and professional manner by ensuring all items are available when required on site.
- Have full commercial awareness of the project, ensure purchases are made within the budgetary targets set out and any potential overspends are quickly coordinated with the commercial team and resolved.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and favourable terms.
- Negotiate discounts, bulk deals, and improved delivery schedules.
- Work closely with Site Operations and our Supply Chain to forecast needs and maintain stock levels.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and reports.
- Build, manage & maintain relationships with clients, contractors, other construction professionals, suppliers and site staff.
- Ensure a safe working environment abiding by all necessary health and safety requirements and legislation
- Ensure all supplier invoices are cleared for payment in a timely manner to maintain the high-level of positive supplier relations expected by the company.
- Always uphold the professional and progressive image of the company.
- Any other duties required to fulfil the requirements of the position
Experience & Knowledge
Essential
- 5 GCSE passes (or equivalent) including Maths and English.
- 3rd level Education with strong literacy, numeracy and IT skills
- Interest in pursuing construction or business qualification
- 1+ years’ experience in a similar role preferably in a construction environment
- Extensive and demonstrable experience of the material orders
- Strong experience and excellent working knowledge of M&E material and components required
- Knowledge of M&E material rates
Desirable
- Mechanical or/and Electrical procurement or site-based experience.

- Proven record of delivering on-time quality work within budget and with minimal supervision
- Organised and structured approach to your work
- Enthusiastic adopter/user of IT systems, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel
- Excellent negotiating skills
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with good communication abilities
- Ability to work under pressure and cope with a varied portfolio of work, progressing with reduced supervision.
- Good reporting skills
