Lambeth Council Decarbonisation Project: Pioneering Sustainable Heating Solutions

Kane has successfully completed a comprehensive decarbonisation project for Lambeth Council in partnership with their group offsite partner Alternative Heat, marking a significant milestone in the borough's ambitious journey towards carbon neutrality. The project focused on transforming heating systems across six locations, including schools and leisure centres, by replacing traditional combustion heating plant with cutting-edge air source heat pump (ASHP) technology.

The project encompassed six sites within the Lambeth Council jurisdiction, presenting unique logistical and operational challenges. Particularly complex were the school installations, which required precise scheduling to ensure zero disruption to educational activities. Kane strategically completed all school-based works during the summer holidays, minimising potential impact on learning environments.

The implementation involved a meticulous process of isolating and removing existing heating infrastructure, followed by the installation of high-efficiency air source heat pump equipment. Sophisticated crane operations were essential in positioning the new plant room equipment, demonstrating Kane's technical expertise and careful planning.

Dan Wedge, Operations Manager for Kane, highlighted the project's significance: "This project represents more than just a technological upgrade. We're directly supporting Lambeth Council's critical mission to reach carbon net zero across its entire estate by 2030, providing sustainable heating solutions that dramatically reduce carbon emissions."

The successful completion of this project brings Lambeth Council closer to its 2030 net zero target, serving as a benchmark for municipal decarbonisation efforts across the UK. By replacing traditional heating systems with sustainable air source heat pump technology, the council has taken a substantial step towards environmental responsibility and energy efficiency.
