A transformative new health & wellbeing hub on the historic site of the old St George’s Hospital.

Kane in partnership with McLaren Construction Group, have delivered a new healthcare facility, providing a range of health, social care, and community services for the people of Having & surrounding boroughs.

Kane have successfully delivered the MEP services on the highly anticipated health & wellbeing hub on the old St. George's hospital site. The North East London NHS Fund Trust (NELFT) sought to create a cutting-edge Health & Wellbeing hub in Hornchurch to enhance patient care and community well-being. McLaren Construction Group, in collaboration with Kane, delivered a state-of-the-art facility that showcased innovative MEP engineering solutions and a viable healthcare model that can be replicated in the years to come across the nation.

This health & wellbeing hub aims to bring healthcare services closer to local communities, reducing pressure on larger hospitals and improving accessibility. As a model for future developments across the UK, it showcases the potential for more efficient and person-centered care delivery, reducing waiting times and travel, and enhancing integrated health and social care services.

A cornerstone of the project was the seamless integration of digital technologies. By utilising a 1:1 digital model, the project team achieved unparalleled accuracy in setting out, optimising resource allocation, and minimising errors during the site installation phase. Further streamlining of the installation phase, was the execution of a robust DfMA strategy which saw the off-site manufacturing of lateral services modules and skid-mounted plant and equipment, which ensured a high quality and fast-paced installation.

The MEP works package included:

  • Roof mounted Air Source heat Pumps (ASHPs)
  • Prefabricated Lateral Service Modules (heating, chilled, domestic water & containment)
  • Renal Fluid system
  • Air Handling Units
  • Fan Coil Units
  • Building Management System
  • Access Control
  • Door Entry System
  • Lighting & Lighting Controls
  • Fire Alarm
  • Disabled Refuge
  • CCTV
  • Nurse Call System
  • Fibre Optic IRS System
  • PV Panels

We are immensely proud to have played a vital role in delivering the St. George's project. The systems that we have installed are the lifeblood of this facility, ensuring optimal conditions for patients and staff alike. We are confident that this hub will provide a cornerstone of care for the community for years to come.
