Kane Group is proud to announce its appointment as the M&E contractor for a new frigate building facility in Glasgow. This landmark project, led by main contractor McLaughlin & Harvey, will see the construction of a state-of-the-art shipbuilding complex for BAE Systems, marking a significant advancement in the UK's defence capabilities. Measuring 170m long and 80m wide, this huge facility will be large enough for two Type 26 frigates to be constructed side-by-side.
Kane Group's expertise will be instrumental in bringing this ambitious project to life. Under the contract, we will be responsible for the design, installation, and commissioning of all MEP systems within the new facility. This includes advanced ventilation and fume extract, electrical distribution & lighting, and pipework systems for compressed air, water and gas services to support the frigate construction process.
A key element of our approach is the extensive use of offsite manufacturing for a substantial portion of the MEP works. This technique involves prefabricating key system components in a controlled factory environment, ensuring unparalleled quality and consistency while maximising on-site efficiency. By minimising on-site construction activities, we are able to accelerate project delivery and mitigate potential risks associated with traditional building methods.
We are honoured to be entrusted with this critical project- BAE Govan represents a significant investment in the UK's defence industry, and we are committed to delivering exceptional MEP services that contribute to the project's success. Our focus on offsite manufacturing will not only enhance quality and speed but also contribute to a safer and more sustainable construction process.
