Kane has recently completed a ground-breaking two-day trial of the latest Augment Reality technology by Gamma AR across multiple London construction sites, marking a significant step forward in our digital construction capabilities.

The Gamma AR platform is an innovative Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) platform that overlays digital BIM models onto the physical construction environment through mobile devices & tablets. This technology enables our teams to visualise MEP installations in real-time, comparing design intent against actual site conditions with unprecedented accuracy.

During the trial, our site teams used the platform to conduct detailed quality assurance checks, identifying potential coordination issues before they became costly problems. The technology proved particularly valuable in complex service-dense areas, where multiple MEP systems need to to be co-ordinated into a a very congested space.

One of the standout features demonstrated was the ability to capture and document as-built conditions efficiently. By comparing the virtual model against installed services, our teams could instantly verify installation accuracy and document any deviations, ensuring our as-built records are more precise than ever.

"The trial results have exceeded our expectations," says Gary Cowan, Head of Digital Construction at Kane. "This technology will close the loop of design and build, allowing fast and accurate as built verification, and QA checking of installations, utilising the golden thread of information contained within our digital twins, and ensuring the smallest tolerance possible between our models and the final built asset."

The platform's intuitive interface allowed our teams to quickly adopt the technology, with minimal training required. Features such as real-time measurements, clash detection, and automated progress tracking proved particularly valuable for our site supervisors and quality managers.

As Kane continues to embrace digital innovation, this successful trial represents another milestone in our commitment to delivering excellence through technology. The implementation of Augment Reality aligns with our broader digital transformation strategy, ensuring we remain at the forefront of MEP construction technology.
