We are pleased to announce that Kane have been awarded another significant Life Sciences contract for Breakthrough Properties, this time in Cambridge. This appointment marks Kane's second collaboration with Breakthrough Properties and also with main contractor McLaughlin & Harvey, further solidifying the company's growing reputation in the life sciences sector.
The 166,000 square foot life science building, located in St Johns Business Park, Cambridge, will comprise five storeys and is scheduled for completion in 2026. The development, which aims to achieve BREEAM Outstanding certification, will feature a mixture of laboratory & write-up spaces, on-site services including a café and lounge, and a gymnasium. Among its key offerings, and similarly to the Trinity by Breakthrough project in Oxford, will be StudioLabs by Breakthrough, providing short-term turnkey private lab and office workspaces designed to meet the evolving needs of life science organisations.
Kane Offsite has already commenced with the prefabrication phase of the project, with much of the roof mounted plant and equipment being lifted into position, with the main start on site for the MEP works scheduled for May 2025.
Cathal McMullan, Managing Director at Kane, expressed his enthusiasm about the contract:
We are delighted to be appointed to our second project with Breakthrough Properties and McLaughlin & Harvey. This contract for the Vitrum development represents a significant milestone for Kane as we continue to expand our presence in the life sciences sector. The project allows us to demonstrate our technical capabilities and innovative approach to MEP solutions in these highly specialised environments.
